General Information:

National NNEDLearn© 2011 Training from June 27-28 is an opportunity for you to engage in one of six possible trainings over the course of two days. This is a unique chance to network with other NNED Members and bring back valuable knowledge and skills to your organization and community. The NNED will provide the training, travel and lodging at no cost to NNED Members.

Application process:

  • Review the 6 tracks and intended audience for each track below. Visit the trainers' websites for more information (Click on Learn more).
  • Download and review the NNEDLearn 2011 agenda
  • If you are not already a NNED member, become a NNED Member today!
  • Fill out an online application form by May 6th
  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until 20 slots are filled for each track. Availability of training is dependent on getting a minimum number of registered participants.
  • Notifications of acceptance will be sent on or before May 13th.
  • Once accepted, participants will be sent confirmation of the accepted training track, supporting material, and a travel form
  • Participants will need to complete an online travel form by May 17th

Brief Strategic Family Therapy

Brief Strategic Family Therapy®  (BSFT™)  is a cost-effective, evidence-based, family-focused intervention designed to (1) prevent, reduce, and/or treat adolescent behavior problems ; (2) improve prosocial behaviors; and (3) improve family functioning. BSFT™ has been implemented with Hispanic and African American families.

Audience: Therapists (ideally has a master’s degree in social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or a related field), supervisors.  *Note: This track requires teams of 3-4 therapists from the same agency to participate in the NNEDLearn 2011 training.

Celebrating Families!

The Celebrating Families!™ (CF) curriculum is an evidence-based cognitive behavioral, support group model written for families in which one or both parents have a serious problem with alcohol or other drugs and in which there is a high risk for domestic violence, child abuse, or neglect. CF™ works with every member of the family to strengthen recovery, break the cycle of addiction and increase successful family reunification. CF™ fosters the development of safe, healthy, fulfilled, and addiction-free individuals and families by increasing resiliency factors and decreasing risk factors while incorporating addiction recovery concepts with healthy family living skills. The intervention has been used with Spanish-speaking families.

Audience: Public and private agency staff, as well as community leaders.

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that helps the public identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Participants will learn a 5-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. The training is geared for a variety of audiences and key professions, including: primary care professionals, faith communities, school personnel and educators, state police and corrections officers, young people, and families.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidenced-based practice in the treatment of individuals with behavioral health issues. MI works across a range of populations and behaviors, including substance abuse, health-promotion behaviors, medical adherence, and mental health issues. MI is a collaborative, person-centered counseling method for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change. The method supports change in a manner congruent with the person's own values and concerns.

Seeking Safety

Seeking Safety is a present-focused,trauma-specific therapy designed to help people attain safety from trauma, post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD), mental health disorders, and substance abuse.  The treatment was designed for flexible use and has been conducted in group and individual format; for women, men, and mixed-gender; using all topics or fewer topics; in a variety of settings (outpatient, inpatient, residential); and for both substance abuse and dependence.  It has also been used with people who have a trauma history, but do not meet criteria for PTSD. The treatment is available as a book, providing both client handouts and guidance for clinicians.

Audience: Any clinician in any setting who treats clients with trauma and/or substance abuse. No specific degree or experience level is required.

The Four Cs: Culture, Communication, Conflict & Collaboration

As members of a variety of groups, we are expected to work together to achieve shared outcomes.  While at times we experience the full benefits of working collaboratively, too often we are frustrated in our ability to pursue a mutual purpose and mutual goals.  This training is designed to build organizational capacity for community leaders.  Combining best practices in collaboration, organizational development, team building, and conflict management, this interactive training offers strategies that will enhance performance and improve relationships and explore the impact of culture on collaboration and conflict and provide a framework to promote cross-cultural dialogue.
